Pattaya –

Pattaya City leaders continue to work on several major Old Town Naklua projects in order to develop local and domestic tourism, seafood markets, and cultural learning centers.

The Pattaya City Mayor Sontaya Kunplome told TPN media today, “The Old Town Naklua market is one of the main projects in the first phase of the ‘NEO Pattaya’ campaign as part of the EEC (Eastern Economic Corridor) larger projects. The project aims to develop local infrastructure to support Pattaya as the center of tourism for Eastern Thailand, specifically focused for this project on domestic tourism.”

“The goal is to keep the identity of the local fishing community as a traditional style and highlight to visitors classic and traditional Thai culture. Environmental management is a main concern of the Old Town Naklua project.” The mayor continued.

“The Old Town Naklua projects have already been supported with a 300 million baht budget for the first phase of developments.” The mayor added.

The Mayor further stated the seven major current projects are:

  1. A 5-story car park building, which is currently under construction and is being designed to “blend” into a natural environment.
  2. Scenery improvement at the Chalerm Phrakiet Public Park
  3. Development project of a fresh food market
  4. Construction of a walking path along the Lan Po Naklua Market
  5. Construction of a nature trail at the mangrove forest at Nok Yang Canal
  6. Natural tourism development at Naklua canal
  7. Footpath construction in the Naklua area

“These projects are ready to be started later this year, with some having already begun preliminary work. We are confident that tourists, especially domestic, will be deeply interested in seeing traditional Thai living, fishing, markets, and environments.” The mayor concluded.
